How To Speed Up Windows when you Open my Computer

The My Computer icon is a special icon that will give you access to all the directories and hard drives in your computer. Because of this, it will sometimes behave differently from other folders that you may open up. If you notice that your computer tends to slow down whenever you are opening the My Computer folder, here are some steps to help you speed up the process.
  • Control Panel. First of all, you will need to go to the Control Panel. The control panel can be accessed through the Start button on the Taskbar. Simply click on the Control Panel and then search for the Folder Options icon. Click on this icon and a small dialogue box will appear which will give you the options for viewing your folders.
  • Folder Options. In the Folder Options dialog box, you will find a small tab on the tab, which is labeled as the View Tab. click on this button and you should be able to see an option that reads, “Automatically search for network folders and printers.” This feature will make your computer search the entire network that your computer belongs to for any folders or printers that are synchronized or attached to the computer. This can slow down the process of opening theMy Computer icon, especially if your computer is connected to a large network or is connected to many network devices. After unchecking this option, click on the OK button.

    • Check.
Once you have clicked on the OK button, you should be able to see the changes right away. When you disable the mapping functions of your computer, there should be no noticeable change. You should still be able to see the drives installed and connected to your computer. If you want to reverse the process and add the networking features back again, simply go to the Folder Options in the Control Panel and click the check box again.
    • Check for viruses. Sometimes, another reason why your computer slows down is because of virus infections. Computer viruses do not only compromise the data that you have stored in your computer, but can also use up system resources. In order for you to be able to remove any viruses, make sure that you run an antivirus program in your computer every now and then. Also use antimalware products, such as Malwarebytes Antimalware. These programs are free, and can be downloaded easily from the Internet. Make sure, however, that your antivirus and antimalware programs are updated, so that they will be able to catch even new viruses.
    • Remove junk files. Finally, try to use the disk cleanup to remove unnecessary junk in your computer. The more unnecessary files there are in your computer, the more time it will take for your computer to open up the My Computer icon and show the contents of your computer.

With these suggestions in mind, you should be able to speed up your My Computer icon when you are opening this particular folder. If you have any more problems, consider calling the customer service representatives from Microsoft, who may be able to give you some other options for speeding up your computer.
