How To Set your IP Address to Automatic

Being familiar with your computer settings, as well as with your Internet connection is very important to be hassle-free at work. You can forego time-consuming and sometimes costly consultation with IT experts if you know how to properly manage your PC and Internet settings. In buying new modem and/or wireless router, you need to know the basics of setting the IP address into automatic mode. This is also essential in troubleshooting simple and even crucial problems with your Internet connection. A common problem is that the home page cannot be accessed upon opening the browser. If you experience this kind of trouble, you should first check yourInternet Protocol or TCP/IP settings. You simply need your computer with Internet, your wireless router and/or modem.

Follow these easy and simple steps in setting to automatic the IP address:
  • Open Network Connections. The first thing you need to do is to open the “Network Connections.”  You can do this by going to your PC’s start menu. “Network Connections” is the label used for classic view, while “Network and Internet Connections” is used for category view. Depending on the view that your computer setting has, click the appropriate tab or icon.
  • Identify the proper connection. There are two types of connections:  wired connection (LAN) or wireless. Select the connection that you are using. Traditionally, the wired connection is the usual choice at home and in the workplace. However, the emergence of wireless technologies has given consumers a more popular and convenient option for their Internet requirements. Both the wired and wireless connections have their own advantages and disadvantages. You can compare these networking options in terms of total cost, installation process, performance, reliability, and security. For instance, wired connection offers increased security as compared to wireless, but wireless is more flexible than wired connection. Choose the connection that is fit for your needs and preference.
  • Select “Properties”. After you have selected the proper connection, click (right) on your connection icon and then select “Properties.”
  • Choose “Internet Protocol.”  You will see below your PC’s general tab a menu box. Scroll it down and then choose “Internet Protocol.” The Internet Protocol or IP is actually tasked to deliver datagrams to the host destination from the host source based mainly on their respective addresses. After selecting “Internet Protocol”, click the properties icon.
  • Set to automatic. Select the automatic option.

If you have a wireless device and you continue to have problems with your connection, it is advised that you first read the device’s manual. After you have configured the device correctly and have chosen the proper settings, then you can restart the wireless device. To be computer and Internet savvy, you have to learn how to accurately manage your network connections. Make sure that you familiarize yourself very well with your IP address settings.
